This article explains how to adjust an employee's tax on their payslip during a pay run, and will cover:
- Locating tax on the payslip
- Adjusting the number of weeks for the tax calculation
- Adjusting the tax calculation
Locating tax on the payslip
The final section of the payslip displays the tax calculation.
Adjusting the number of weeks for the tax calculation
There is a warning to let you know how many weeks this calculation is based on. This number will default to the number of weeks in the pay calendar (also called pay cycle) that this team member is associated with.
If you want to change the number of weeks used in the tax calculation, click on the pencil icon and change the number of weeks, then click the Save icon.
You might do this if you are, for example, completing a weekly pay run, but paying an employee for 2 weeks' annual leave upfront before they go on leave. In this instance, you would change the number to 2 weeks so that tax is calculated over 2 weeks.
Note: If this is not done within the payslip, then the employee may pay more tax in this payslip than required.
Adjusting the tax calculation
If you need to change the tax calculated - for example, you would like to apply the outcome of a marginal tax calculation you have done outside of Deputy Payroll - you can do this directly in the payslip.
Click on the pencil icon to open the tax amount field.
Enter the amount you wish to be applied as the tax amount. Click on the save icon to save the amount to the pay run.
You will see the tax amount has been modified on the payslip.
You will also see a message letting you know that the tax has been modified, and the option to revert back to the system calculated tax amount by clicking on the x icon.
