What is Deputy Messaging
Deputy Messaging is a real-time communication tool that keeps your team members connected in one dedicated space.
By replacing multiple chat apps and email threads, it centralizes all work-related communication within the Deputy app.
With Messaging, managers can:
- Share instant updates across locations
- Send direct messages and group messages
- Reduce distractions from multiple communication channels
- Keep teams aligned when managing schedules or coordinating daily tasks
- Celebrate team wins with Kudos
- Run group polls to gather quick feedback
- Send voice-recorded messages on the go
Who can access Messaging
Deputy Messaging is currently being rolled out as a part of the Beta program to select customers. If you wish to turn Messaging on for your account, please express interest here.
Messaging will be off by default for your account. Deputy users with an access level of System Administrator can turn on the Deputy Messaging feature.
Once Deputy Messaging has been enabled, team members are automatically added to relevant location-based channels based on their location setup in Deputy.
How to access Messaging in Deputy
On the Deputy Web App
Find the Communications tab in the top navigation bar, then click on it to open a drop-down menu.
Select Messaging.
On the Deputy Mobile App
You’ll find the Messaging button in the bottom navigation bar. This section includes both Messaging and your News Feed.
Note: If you can't access the Messaging feature, you'll need to turn on Messaging in your account.
What are Direct Messages
Direct messages are private, one-to-one conversations. You can use them to quickly connect with a team member about shifts, updates or anything else work-related.
What are Group Messages
Group messages make it easy to chat with multiple team members at once. They’re perfect for ad-hoc team announcements, shift swaps, or sharing timely updates with a specific group of people.
What are Location-Based Channels
Each location in your Deputy account has its own messaging channel, created automatically when you turn on Deputy Messaging for the first time. When a team member is added to a location, they’re automatically added to that channel. If someone works across multiple locations, they’ll see and be able to participate in each location-based channel.
What happens when team members join, leave, or move locations
Deputy Messaging keeps user access up to date automatically:
-
New team members: Automatically added to the relevant location channel when you invite a team member to Deputy.
-
Leaving team members: Automatically removed from Messaging when you archive a team member or delete a team member from Deputy.
- Location changes: If a team member is moved from one location to another in Deputy, they’re automatically added to the new location-based channel and removed from the previous one. This ensures that Messaging always reflects the most accurate and secure team structure in your Deputy account.
