Set up the Deputy Time Clock app on your Device
Before you begin
What you will need to download and set up the brand new Deputy Time Clock app:
- iPad or iPhone running iOS 16.0 or later (we do recommend running the latest iOS version)
- Modern Android phone or Tablet
- Consistent access to the internet and power for the devices
- It is recommended to change the iPad's settings so that the screen doesn't automatically lock or go to sleep. On the iPad go to Settings > Display and Brightness > Autolock > Never.
- A well-lit location to install the Device (important for clarity of face recognition photos)
- During set up of the Deputy Time Clock app you may have to allow permission for the app to access your device camera
- A Deputy user needs System Administrator or a Location Manager access level to set up the app. Employees and Supervisors cannot set up the app. Setting up the app is a one-time action, and once a System Administrator or Location Manager has set up the Deputy Time Clock app, they do not need to log in daily or regularly. The app will then be ready for your team members to clock in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

1. After you have downloaded the Deputy Time Clock app to your iPad, open it and tap Log in to Deputy.
2. Enter the email address and password associated with your System Administrator or Location Manager account then tap Log in.
3. Enter the name of your Time Clock. Select your Deputy business and select which Deputy location this Time Clock will apply to.
4. Select which of your locations you will allow your team members to clock into from this Time Clock, then tap Done. You can set up one Deputy Time Clock App for multiple selected locations if they are within the same time zone.
5. Choose how you want your team members to authenticate themselves. Select from:
- PIN only - Team members will have to enter a four-digit PIN to unlock the Deputy Time Clock app, OR
- Face Unlock or PIN - Team members can allow the camera to authenticate their identity by comparing their face to their profile photo, or they can still use the four-digit PIN. Note: if you choose this option, team members will still have to individually opt in for the first time before the Deputy Time Clock app can use the Face Unlock feature to authenticate them to unlock the Deputy Time Clock app.
Once you have chosen your settings, tap on Create time clock.
Once your Deputy Time clock app is set up your team members can log in to start clocking in and out for their shifts.
