What you might see in Beam
When setting up or reconfiguring super registration for an entity (for example, ABC Pty Ltd), you may notice that:
- You enter the correct address and contact details for ABC Pty Ltd, and save.
- When you return to the Beam form, the details have changed back to a different entity (XYZ Pty Ltd details, instead of ABC Pty Ltd).
- The behaviour occurs across different browsers, incognito mode, and different computers.
- Registration with Beam / ART can't be completed because the entity details are wrong.
Why this happens
This behaviour is expected, not a defect.
- The Beam registration form pulls the business address from the first ABN configured in Deputy every time you open it, as that is the default global address.
- Any edits you make while completing the Beam setup flow are only temporarily held within the form. The updated details are not saved until you reach the end of the configuration and submit.
- If you exit the setup flow before submitting, Beam reverts to the default global address the next time you open it. The new address you had entered has disappeared.
- The intent is to streamline setup by pre-filling business details, which can make it appear as though your changes have been overwritten or reverted.
How to set up Beam correctly
Step 1: Set the correct address in Business Settings
Before opening Beam configuration, navigate to your account's Business Settings → Pay tab and check the global settings for the business entity you want to register. Ensure the business address and contact details are correct.
To learn more about managing details for your business entities, check out Introduction to the Pay tab.
Step 2: Open Beam configuration
To configure Beam, go to the Payroll tab and choose Superannuation from the left-hand side menu. Then click Beam Settings and select Configure Beam.
Step 3: Review the pre-filled details
Review the pre-filled address and edit any field that needs to differ for Beam / ART registration.
Step 4: Continue through every step of the Beam registration flow
Complete the entire Beam registration process in one sitting.
Do not:
- Close the browser tabx
- Navigate away from the page
- Exit the flow partway through
Step 5: Submit the registration
At the final step, submit the Beam registration. Only after submission are your details written to Beam.
Step 6: Verify the registration
Re-open Beam configuration. The address will appear to come from global settings again on the form, however the submitted registration with Beam holds the values you submitted. To confirm the registration was successful, check the confirmation in the Beam portal / ART confirmation email.
| Important note: If you you need to change details after submission, re-opening Beam configuration will re-populate the fields using the details stored in global settings. You’ll need to update the relevant fields, complete the full setup flow again, and resubmit the registration. |
Multi-entity accounts
This issue most commonly affects accounts with multiple business entities. If your account has more than one business entity (e.g. a head company plus several trading entities):
Note that global settings stores one set of business details per account context. When you re-open Beam configuration, it pulls whichever entity is set as the default global settings, not necessarily the entity you're currently registering for. The default global setting uses the address entered when payroll was initially set up in Deputy.
You should complete each entity's registration in one sitting. Open Beam, confirm or edit the details, then submit. Avoid leaving a registration half-finished.
When to contact Deputy Support
Contact Deputy Support if:
- You've followed the steps above and the Beam / ART submission itself fails (not just the on-screen address reverting)
- Beam confirms registration, however the details on Beam's side are wrong despite you submitting the correct ones
- You're unable to update Global Settings for an entity
When contacting Support, you'll need to include:
- The entity name
- A screenshot of the Beam form at the point of submission
- Any error message shown by Beam or ART
