Deputy Messaging gives you flexible tools to manage notifications, helping you stay informed without unnecessary interruptions.
This article explains how to customize your notifications and how to read status indicators.
Managing Messaging Notifications
Messaging keeps you updated with mobile push notifications for any new messages. You can also customize your notifications for each chat or channel individually.
Mobile App Notifications
On mobile, you’ll get Messaging alerts through push notifications only. Email notifications aren’t used.
To enable or disable push notifications, go your phone's Settings then the Applications list and tap on the Deputy app in the list.
From here, you can toggle the permissions, such as notifications, on and off as desired.
If you want to reduce noise or avoid distractions, you can mute or snooze notifications for specific chats or channels.
To mute notifications from a group chat or individual team member, open the relevant messaging thread, then tap on profile photo in the top right corner. Switch the Mute notifications toggle ON.
If you've muted notifications from a group chat or individual, you'll no longer receive push notifications or badge alerts on your mobile. You will need to open the chat thread to check for new messages.
To unmute notifications from a group chat or individual team member, switch the Mute notifications toggle OFF.

|
Important note: Enabling the @on shift feature may trigger automated notifications or alerts to employees who are currently on a meal or rest break. Depending on your jurisdiction, this could be considered a work-related interruption during a legally protected, duty-free break period. You are encouraged to review applicable wage and hour laws and ensure your organization’s policies, scheduling practices, and notification settings align with any requirements governing employee contact during breaks. Laws and obligations can vary by jurisdiction, so it’s important to consider how this feature fits within your compliance framework. It remains your responsibility to determine whether enabling this feature is appropriate for your specific operational and regulatory environment. |
Status-based mentions make it easy to communicate with team members according to their current availability. You can use @mentions on both the mobile app and web app.
@on shift
To instantly notify all team members who are clocked in, type @on shift in your message bar, followed by your message, and click Send. This is useful for sharing real-time updates or urgent announcements with staff on duty.
