Hire allows you to publish your organisation's job listings on a dedicated career page. When you connect your Deputy account to Indeed, you can also choose to publish the same job listing on Indeed.
If you don't already have an Indeed Employer account, sign up to Indeed via Hire to earn sponsor credit.

Connecting Indeed to Hire
In order to publish the jobs you create on Hire to Indeed, first you would have to connect Indeed to Hire. You can do so either from the Hire settings page or when publishing a new job:
Connect to Indeed from the Hire settings page
1. On the People tab in Deputy, click on Settings from the left-hand side menu and scroll down to the Job Boards section at the bottom of the page. Click Connect to connect to Indeed.
Connect to Indeed when publishing a new job
When attempting to publish a new job listing, you will be prompted to select where that job will be published. All jobs will be published on your Deputy careers page, so that option will always be ticked by default. If you would like the job to be posted to Indeed too, you can click Connect on the Indeed row and tick the Indeed option once connected.
This will then allow your new job to be posted to both Deputy and Indeed.
If you have an existing Indeed Employer account
If you have an existing Indeed Employer account, Deputy will ask for your permission to access your Indeed Employer account in order to post your jobs to Indeed.
Note: It is possible to connect Deputy to your Indeed account without having an Indeed Employer account, but publishing your job to Indeed will result in a failure if your Employer account is not yet set up.
Simply click Continue after reading the instructions.
Please don’t close the Indeed connection popup until fully authenticated to your Indeed account.
If you do not have an existing Indeed Employer Account
If you do not have an existing Indeed Employer account, you will be asked to create a new Indeed Employer account instead when attempting to connect Deputy to Indeed.
When creating a new Indeed account, you will be asked to confirm your email address. Open the email to verify and return to the connection popup first opened by Hire to continue the account creation process.
Note: If you log in to Indeed via your Google sign in credentials you will need to click Connect twice to successfully make the connection.
Sponsor credits with Indeed
As a bonus, if you've created a NEW Indeed Employer account via Hire, your Indeed Employer account will be credited with $250 USD (or equivalent in your currency, see table below) in sponsored jobs credit for you to try sponsoring your jobs.
Country | Amount of sponsor credits in your Indeed Employer account |
Australia | AU$350 |
United Kingdom | £200 |
United States | US$250 |
Note: The sponsor credit will only apply at the time of Indeed invoicing.
The sponsor credit from Indeed can be spent on 'boosting' jobs to be indexed higher on Indeed.
According to Indeed worldwide data, sponsored jobs are 3.5 times more likely to result in a hire than free job listings posted on Indeed.
You can see that your Hire account is connected to Indeed on the Settings page of Hire.
Publishing to Indeed
Once you have created and published your job listing on your Deputy Careers page, you can then publish it to the Indeed job board.
On the Job listings tab, if you open any published job you will be shown a read-only version of your job listing that shows:
- who published the job listing and when
- how many applicants have responded to the job listing
- which Job Boards the job listing has been published on
To publish to Indeed, click Manage in the Job Boards section.
Click Publish next to the Indeed logo.
You will then be presented with two options for publishing the job to Indeed. You can publish with the option for candidates to:
- Apply via Indeed (default) OR
- Apple via Deputy
Apply via Indeed
If you select Apply via Indeed, candidates applying to your job will go through Indeed's application form. It is important to note that these candidates would not show up in Hire, and would not be able to see any screening questions or the video question you've set up in Hire.
You would then only be able to access candidates applying through this method on your Indeed account and manage them from Indeed. To do this, go to the Applicants page in Hire and click on View Indeed applicants to manage these candidates on Indeed.
Apply via Deputy
If you select Apply via Deputy, candidates applying to your job will go through Deputy's application flow. They will be able to answer your screening questions and respond to the video question. You will be able to view this video response along with their full application in Hire and manage them within our platform.
After selecting the application method, click Publish to complete publishing your job to Indeed.
Manage and sponsor published jobs on Indeed
After you’ve published your job to Indeed, you will see Indeed is listed in the "Currently published to" section of the Job boards page for your job listing.
Click on the icon on the far right to view your listing on Indeed or click on Manage to manage the listing on Indeed.
On this page, you can Sponsor your listing by setting a daily or monthly budget and an optional end date to stop sponsoring the job.
Click Save changes when you are done.
Note: you can also click on Manage on Indeed to manage the job listing by logging into your Indeed account and managing it there.
Potential errors when publishing to Indeed
Job location is unrecognised by Indeed
Indeed requires you to have a valid location before posting your job to Indeed. Please check your location is set up properly with a valid address by navigating to Location Settings.
Employer account not yet set up on Indeed
Whilst you can connect Indeed accounts to Hire, to publish your job as an employer on Indeed, you will need an Indeed Employer account connected to Hire.
If you don’t have an Indeed Employer account, publishing to Indeed from Deputy will fail.
Failure to adhere to Indeed job posting guidelines
There are a few reasons why your new job may not initially appear on Indeed, including failure to adhere to their job posting guidelines. Even if your job appeared in the search results initially, it can still stop being displayed later. Visit the Indeed help centre here for a list of reasons why your jobs might be removed or not posted on Indeed.
Updating published jobs on Indeed
After a job is published on Indeed, you can still make updates to the job through Hire. Simply click on the job you've published to Indeed, edit it and publish the changes. Changes you make and publish in Hire will automatically update the published job listing in Indeed.
However, any changes you make on the published job directly from your Indeed account will not be reflected on Hire. Therefore, you should make changes to the job listing on Hire if you want to see the changes both on Hire and Indeed.
Sponsoring published jobs on Indeed
Sponsored Jobs are paid listings that receive optimal placement in Indeed search results as compared with organic, or unpaid, listings. While organic postings will be buried in the search results as new jobs are posted, sponsored jobs will stay visible to applicants for a longer period of time. According to Indeed data, Sponsored Jobs are over 3.5 times more likely to result in a hire compared with free listings. Visit Indeed to learn more about Sponsored Jobs.
Sponsored job budget
According to Indeed, sponsored job budgets average between $5 to $15 per day, but the ideal daily budget depends on the type of job you are offering, the location of the job and how quickly you need to fill the position. Indeed gives you the flexibility to choose how much you want to spend to find the right candidates within your timeframe.
If you want more applications, you can increase your budget. If you are getting too many applications, you can reduce your budget or stop sponsoring altogether.
Potential errors when promoting a job
Insufficient, missing or invalid payment option
When you sponsor a job while having insufficient funds, missing or invalid payment options in your Indeed Employer account, the job will still be posted on Indeed as a free job. In order for the job promotion to be applied correctly, you must update your Indeed Employer account with a valid payment option. Visit Indeed to learn more about updating your billing information.
Archiving a job already posted on Indeed
When you archive a job listing in Hire that you’ve already published to Indeed via Hire, Deputy will set the status of the Indeed job to “deleted”.
This will result in its removal from Indeed search results, but you can still find the job record within your Indeed employer account should you wish to repost it.
Disconnecting your Indeed account
If you no longer wish to have your Indeed account connected to Deputy, go to Hire Settings and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click Disconnect and your Deputy account will no longer be connected to Indeed.
This will not affect any jobs already posted on Indeed and will not affect any ongoing promotions or sponsored job listings.
After disconnecting your Indeed account, you can still make changes to your published jobs on Indeed by logging in on Indeed.
FAQs
Can I still receive the sponsor credits for Indeed if I'm just trialling Deputy?
Yes! Even if you have just started a free Deputy trial account and are setting up Deputy HR you can still create a NEW Indeed Employer account via Deputy HR and take advantage of the Indeed sponsor credit offer.
Why was my job flagged as required to be sponsored when I tried to post it for free?
The Indeed team has notified us that there was a recent policy change on Indeed, you can review the announcement here. In general, here are the best practices for Indeed postings:
- Include salary information - 75% of job seekers are more likely to apply for a job if the salary range is listed in the posting
- Include a precise location - candidates want to know where a job is located before applying so include location information (address, city/state and zip code). Sponsored indexed jobs with precise location have 60% more apply starts per job.
- Review and follow the Policies Regarding Reposted Content, Job Post Duplication, and Manipulation of Search Results
We recommend you to reach out to Indeed Sales or Support team for further assistance on why certain jobs are flagged as requiring sponsorship.
