What time zone preferences can I manage?
If you work for an organisation that schedules shifts across different time zones you can manage preferences in the Deputy mobile app to have control over how you see shift times are displayed.
You can choose to:
- Display the shift times converted to the time zone setting of your mobile device (this is the default option)
OR
- Display the shift times in the time zone of the shift location
How do I update my preference?
iOS mobile
On the Home tab, tap on your profile picture on the top left-hand side of the screen and then tap on Preferences.
In the Preferences section:
- If you would like to show shift times in your device's time zone, ensure the toggle is ON (toggle is green). What will I see in the mobile app with this setting ON?
- If you would like to show shift times in the timezone of the shift location, toggle the setting OFF (toggle is greyed out). What will I see in the mobile app with this setting OFF?
The setting selection will remain in place until you change it or delete and reinstall the mobile app.
Android mobile
On any tab in the Deputy mobile app for Android, tap on the menu icon (three lines) on the top left-hand side of the screen and then tap on Preferences.
Under the TIME section:
- If you would like to show shift times in your device's time zone ensure the toggle is ON (Toggle is purple). What will I see in the mobile app with this setting ON?
- If you would like to show shift times in the timezone of the shift location toggle the setting OFF(Toggle is greyed out). What will I see in the mobile app with this setting OFF?
The setting selection will remain in place until you change it or delete and reinstall the mobile app.
What differences will I see on the mobile apps?
With time zone preference toggled ON to use the device's timezone to display shift times (Default setting)
Home tab
If you have your mobile app set to show shift times in the device's time zone then all shifts displayed on the Home tab (including those shown in the All upcoming shifts and Available shifts sections) will show the shift times converted to the device's time zone.
In the example below:
- the phone is currently in Sydney, Australia.
- the team member has been scheduled for two shifts both starting at 9am in their location but one shift is in Hawaii, US and one shift is in Sydney, AU.
When viewing a shift starting at 9am in Sydney the shift is displayed in Sydney's time zone.
On the same phone, the shift located in Hawaii, US starting at 9am in Hawaii is displayed as starting at 5am but you can see a line added underneath to let you know the time is Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT+10:00).
Furthermore, when you tap on the shift to show shift details, you can see that the shift is from
5:00AM - 1:00PM GMT+10:00 (Australia Eastern Standard Time) which is:
Thursday 3rd Oct. 9:00AM - 5:00PM Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (GMT-10:00)
That is, both times are displayed, the device's time zone as well as the local time for the shift.
Schedule tab
On the Schedule tab you can select the location at the top of the screen, or All Locations.
Shifts times will be displayed in the time zone of the location where the shift occurs and the timezone will be named if this is not the current timezone of the device's location.
Furthermore, when you tap on the shift to show shift details, you can see that the shift is from
5:00AM - 1:00PM GMT+10:00 (Australia Eastern Standard Time) which is:
Thursday 3rd Oct. 9:00AM - 5:00PM Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (GMT-10:00)
That is, both times are displayed, the device's time zone as well as the local time for the shift.
With time zone preference toggled OFF to display shift times in the Location's own time zone
Home tab
If you have your mobile app set to show shift times in the Location's time zone then all shifts displayed on the Home tab (including those shown in the All upcoming shifts and Available shifts sections) will show the shift times in the location's own time zone regardless of the time zone your phone is located in.
In the example below:
- the phone is currently in Sydney, Australia.
- the team member has been scheduled for two shifts both starting at 9am in their location but one shift is in Hawaii, US and one shift is in Sydney, AU.
When viewing a shift starting at 9am in Sydney the shift is displayed in Sydney's time zone.
On the same phone, the shift located in Hawaii, US starting at 9am in Hawaii is also displayed as starting at 9am but you can see a line added underneath to let you know the time is Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (GMT-10:00)
Schedule tab
If you have your mobile app set to show shift times in the Location's time zone then all shifts displayed on the Schedule tab will be displayed in the location's time zone.
In the example below:
- the phone is currently in Sydney, Australia.
- the team member has been scheduled for a shift starting at 9am in Hawaii, US
The shift time is displayed in local Hawaiian time but because the mobile app recognises that the phone is not currently in Hawaiian timezone you can see a line is added underneath the shift time in Shift details to let you know the time displayed is Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (GMT-10:00).
